How to measure someone's height with the iPhone 12

The Lidar sensor in the iPhone 12 Pro can be used to measure a person's height

Apple has revealed that there is a new function built into the Measure app that enables certain iPhone 12 models to measure the height of someone just using the iPhone's camera.

If you have an iPhone 12 Pro or 12 Pro Max your iPhone has a built-in LiDAR scanner. The LiDAR scanner can be used to provide better, more realistic Augmented Reality experiences, but the scanner also adds a new function to the iPhone's Measure app.

The liDAR scanner can be used to measure a person's height, just by holding the phone in front of the person.

According to Apple, the iPhone's 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max should even be able to measure a person's height when the person is sitting in a chair.

The feature is only available for Apple products with a lidar scanner, ie the iPhone 12 Pro series and 2020 iPad Pro models.

Here's how to measure height using the iPhone 12 Pro:

Open the Measure app.
Hold the iPhone so that the whole length of the person is in the frame.
After a few seconds you will see a line appear above the persons head and the height measurement will show just below that.
